The Division of Optoelectronic Materials (DOM), leading by prof. Yuriy Zorenko, is formed in the IP UKW in 2017 as a result of the rapid development of Luminescent Materials Laboratory, founded in the 2013 year. The team of scientists of this laboratory conducts advanced research and engineering of modern luminescent materials in the form of single crystal films of complex oxides (garnets, perovskites, orthosilicates, tungstates and saphire) by the liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) method at the world scientific level. The single crystalline films of oxides are used as scintillators, cathodoluminescent screens and converters for white LEDs as well as model objects for the basic research of the optical properties of these materials.
Characterization of developed luminescent materials at the DOM consists of the studies of their structure and morphology using XRD diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and scanning electronic microscopy. The laboratory provides also comparative studies of the optical properties of the films, crystals, ceramic, micro- and nano-powders of developed materials, such as absorption, photoluminescence, cathodoluminescence, X-ray excited luminescence and thermoluminescence together with measurements of EPR and NMR to determine the structure of optically active centers. The scintillation performance of the developed materials (the light yield and scintillation decay kinetics) is examined under excitation by alpha particles and gamma quanta. The time resolved luminescent spectroscopy of the films, crystals, ceramics and powders of the developed materials under excitation by the conventional light sources and pulsed synchrotron radiation excitation is also used for determination of the peculiarities of the intrinsic and defect related luminescence of these crystalline form of materials under study.
The world scientific research level provided in the DOM studies is confirmed by (i) performance of the international EU research project in the Horizon 2020 program NANOLUX ID 286 “Singly and doubly Ce3+ and Eu2+ doped silicate garnet nanoceramic phosphors for high power white light emitting diodes”, in which prof. Yu. Zorenko acts as a coordinator of the Consortium, consisting of the IP UKW (Poland), University of Erlangen-Nurnberg (Germany), University of Ghent (Belgium) and the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of RAS (Russia); (ii) implementation of research projects at the National Science Center of Poland (# 2012/07/BS/ST5/02376 (2013-2016); # 2016/21/B/ST8/03200 (2017-2020) and # 2017/25/B/ST8/02932 (2018-2021); (iii) over 100 publications in the JCR journals in 2013-2018 years as well as numerous invited and oral presentations at the international conferences.
Most recently, EURODIM 2018 international conference was organized by prof. Yu. Zorenko, as a conference chairman, together with other co-workers from the IP UKW. In the current year, the IP UKW together with the Oncology Center in Bydgoszcz, is invited to organize another large-scale international conference LUMDETR 2021 in Bydgoszcz. The chairman of LUMDETR 2021 conference will be prof. Yuriy Zorenko.
